Travel: Sri Lanka (part 2)

Even though everyday I was back in my hotel covered in dust, and the dust plus the sunscreen irritated my sensitive skin , I am crazily in love with Sri Lanka. There is just so much to see and so much to do. (Again all photos were taken with my fujifilm x100)

Two years ago I crashed a wedding in India. This time in Sri Lanka, I “crashed” a funeral. When I was following the sign to the spice garden, I ended up arriving at a guesthouse, which temporarily transformed into a funeral home. A man saw me and invited me in to give my blessing to the deceased and his family. Since I am always curious about different cultures and wonder how they carry out their weddings/ funerals, I walked into my very first Sri Lankan funeral. After walking pass the deceased, who was placed on a bed in the living room, I was met with a lot of smiley faces, and was given some tea, and being invited to join their funeral buffet lunch. It’s quite a once in a life time experience! sl-51

You can never imagine what’s on top of this gigantic rock! sl-84

Halfway up the rock, within an inaccessible rocky shelter in the vertical wall of the western face are rock paintings which have brought universal acclaim to the site of Sigiriya – ‘The Maidens of the Clouds’sl-85

At the summit of the rock is the fortified palace with its ruined buildings, its cisterns and its rock sculptures. sl-86
